Sprouts

RDC served as Architect of Record for the transformation of an existing retail space into a Sprouts Farmers Market in Santa Maria. The project centered on a strategic tenant improvement within a building shell originally designed in the 1990's, requiring a thoughtful approach to adapt the space while preserving its character.
The design preserves and refines Spanish-inspired architectural style elements, with exterior improvements that enhance the customer experience. Updates include a reconfigured storefront with decorative colored concrete, upgraded walkway lighting, and new landscaping that creates a more welcoming environment.
A primary challenge was translating Sprouts’ prototypical store layout into a unique building configuration. The team worked closely with Sprouts’ team to develop a customized layout that supports efficient operations while maintaining the full range of offerings. Careful coordination also allowed the project to retain the existing electrical switchgear, avoiding a complex utility upgrade and reducing overall impact.
The store incorporates a CO2 refrigeration system and is designed in alignment with California Green Building Standards, supporting energy efficiency and long-term performance.
