Among the top five largest malls in the United States and featuring over 200 stores, Del Amo Fashion Center is now the South Bay’s premier shopping destination. With ever-changing retail stores in the 1990’s, Del Amo suffered a loss of patronage in department stores and faced competition from more contemporary and new malls in the surrounding Los Angeles area. To revitalize the existing center, RDC, STIR Architecture and 5+ Design were selected by Simon Properties to create an upscale shopping and entertainment experience.
Amongst the addition of multiple stores and reconstruction of the development, a four-level parking structure with direct access to a renovated Nordstrom, was added to accommodate more than 2,000 cars and features electric vehicle charging stations. As a result of the renovations, Del Amo Fashion Center reestablished itself as the premier shopping center between Santa Monica and Orange County.
