Apollo Landing is named for El Segundo’s long history of aerospace research that included work on the Apollo Project. The vehicular dominant corridor from the 405 Freeway to Manhattan Beach demanded an architectural solution that offered high impact and presence on a quick-paced street.

The design integrates a varied building massing and volumes to create intimately scaled people spaces amid a large-scale commercial corridor. To achieve dynamic variation, the architectural playfulness of the single-story building, strategically placed double-height mezzanine space, and outdoor urban garden patios introducing a welcoming pedestrian scale. There are three predominant volumes made distinct by material and textures. The first building is defined by a louvered brise-soleil element that unifies its adjoining patios.

The second building is uniquely anchored with playful use of CNC routed fiber cement panels composed in triangular modules introducing visual and graphic movement. The third building is a large cube defined with glazing and layered stainless steel linear skin. Landscaped paseos with a prominent line of palm trees and soft, deciduous arbors create a natural canopy, offering sunshade and mitigation from the street noise. The modern dynamic design approach has attracted a gastronomic collection of highly sought-after food offerings visited by the burgeoning creative office community of El Segundo.
