Horton
Location: Downtown San Diego, California
Client: Stockdale Capital Partners

Serving as architect of record, RDC is collaborating with design firm Rios Clemente Hale to reinvent Horton Plaza as the ultimate 10-block mixed re-use campus—a sustainable, high-tech hub in the heart of Downtown San Diego. Horton will be the epitome of a modern office—complete with retail, food and beverage outlets, public park space, theaters and more.

Horton will provide a diverse and dynamic mix of food, shopping, entertainment, health and wellness options, as well as unique cultural venues and programming. Horton will offer the city’s largest and most convenient on-site parking, covered spaces, and valet services for office and retail employees and guests.

Using the latest in mixed re-use and green building practices, the redevelopment of Horton will deliver all the benefits of a new modern building without the environmental impact and costs associated with ground-up construction. The development is pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum green building certification and WELL Platinum certification through the U.S. Green Building Council—the leading tool for advancing health and well-being in buildings globally.

Horton is intended become a hub in San Diego and Southern California for the future of business and sustainable city life. Easily accessible from abundant housing in Downtown and nearby communities, the re-imagined Horton will become an economic engine: housing 3,000–4,000 new jobs in Downtown San Diego. Planned as 700,000 square feet of creative office space and 300,000 square feet of curated retail space, the project is currently under construction with an estimated opening date of Q4 2020.
