The Retail Experience
Ralphs Sherman Oaks is a redevelopment of an existing, single-level supermarket which had previously served the Sherman Oaks community for 42 years.
A grand mezzanine allows people to sit and enjoy food and drinks, while establishing a point of connectivity to the community as it is visible to outside traffic.
Fresh New Market
This new unique podium-style store is comprised of a two-level precast concrete parking structure concealed by a 40,000 steel-framed market. The design combines textures and materials that will provide a dynamic visual interest point on the highly visible corner of Ventura Boulevard and Hazeltine Avenue, complementing the existing commercial corridor.
As an active market in the neighboring community, it was integral that all aspects of the new store were designed with the customer in mind. Upon entering the store, through the illuminated parking structure or by the main street entrances, customers are greeted to an iconic, multi-story glass atrium. A grand mezzanine allows people to sit and enjoy food and drinks, while establishing a point of connectivity to the community as it is visible to outside traffic.
Ralphs Sherman Oaks sets itself apart from other markets as it meets ENERGY STAR and USGBC LEED® certification requirements.
Key departments of the store are easily identified by unique design elements like a suspended, undulating wooden slat – creating movement and visual interest, and a floating ceiling in other areas.
Varying texture and colors connect the interior to the outer shell and carry the modern theme throughout the store.
