Future of Retail Symposium

Last Friday we welcomed three key players involved in the “Future of Retail” to share their insight on the changing reality of retail to our staff. As architects, urbanists and designers of the retail environment, we are looking to understand and help shape the changing paradigm of how we live, work, recreate, commute, and acquire our goods.

Trevor Pollard, VP of Architecture & Design for Westfield Group, George Ladyman, Intl & Managing Director for JLL Project and Development Group and Raan Parton, Co-Founder & Creative Director for Apolis shared their inside perspective on retail changes and how industries are working to adapt. Each sharing a different perspective, the take-aways were similar: retail is changing. As online sales increase and nearly one-third of America’s enclosed malls are estimated to be dead or dying, more focus is being placed on the experience.

The New Retail Experience

Five years ago retail focused on introducing consumers to the product, but now people already know what they want. Creating more livable, urban places that focus innovatively on experience and accommodate for future retail trends and changes in technology, we can envision a new landscape of brick and mortar retail.

The future of retail is diverse, and Retail Design Collaborative is proud to be on the cutting edge of trends, looking forward to the next generation.
